nothing super exciting happened today. i just wanted to write about it because i had a nice day.
school was… school. our chemistry teacher somehow managed to spend almost ten minutes trying to get the projector to work. lucy whispered "i could've fixed it by hitting it." which made me laugh at the worst possible moment. (￣▽￣;)
we got homework back after lunch. i actually did okay!! not AMAZING. but okay!! dad says i'm way too hard on myself sometimes. he's probably right.
after school i stopped by dad's work for a little while because one of the new apprentices didn't know how to fold napkins the way the restaurant wanted. i still don't really know why there are so many different ways to fold napkins. surely people just unfold them anyway… dad laughed when i said that. he let me decorate some little fruit tarts afterwards though. mine looked… slightly lopsided. but edible. so that's progress. (´꒳`)
afterwards i met up with clover. we didn't really have a plan. we just… walked. i like doing that with her. she always seems to know where she’s going even when she clearly doesn’t.
we ended up by the little river behind school. the one everyone always tells you not to go near because the bank is muddy. clover immediately walked down it anyway. of course. i asked,
"What if you fall in?"
she looked back at me. completely serious. and said,
"Then you'll have to fish me out."
i told her that sounded like a terrible plan. she said,
"It is."
then she laughed. i don't know why. i laughed too.
we sat there for a while throwing little pebbles into the water. mostly talking about nothing. games. music. whether cereal counts as soup. (she said yes. she’s wrong.) at one point i looked over because she got really quiet. she was just… watching the water. she looked peaceful. i don't think i've ever seen her look like that at school. usually she’s always saying something. or arguing with someone. or being snarky. it was nice.

i think i'm starting to understand her a little better.
